Day 5: Beguiling the Beauty by Sherry Thomas

Welcome to day five of March SWEET Madness—a month long party to celebrate the upcoming release of my novel, SWEET MADNESS, available April 2, 2013.

I am thrilled to continue this fun event with the incredible Sherry Thomas. My idol, Lisa Kleypas, says this about Sherry: “Sherry Thomas is the most powerfully original historical romance author writing today.” Just in case you needed more than my word ;)

It was tough to decide which book to feature today, so I decided to go with the first in her most recent trilogy (for those of you who can’t stand to start in the middle of a series!). I hope you enjoy Beguiling the Beauty.

Here is what the book is about:

When the Duke of Lexington meets the mysterious Baroness von Seidlitz-Hardenberg aboard a transatlantic ocean liner, he is fascinated. She is exactly what he has been searching for—a beautiful woman who interests and entices him. He falls hard and fast—and soon proposes marriage.

And then she disappears without a trace…

For in reality, the “baroness” is Venetia Easterbrook—a proper young widow who had her own vengeful reasons for instigating an affair with the duke. But the plan has backfired. Venetia has fallen in love with the man she despised—and there’s no telling what might happen when she is finally unmasked…

And now for the fun part—your chance to win! Just fill out the rafflecopter form below. Contest will be open for 2 weeks—US & CANADA only, please).

If you don’t win (or just can’t wait to start reading!), here’s where you can get the book!

And to find out more about Sherry (including her exciting new YA project!), you can visit her website at:

I am also giving away a copy of either my debut, SWEET ENEMY or SWEET DECEPTION (winner’s choice) EVERY DAY of March SWEET Madness! (you will need to enter this contest separately every day for a new chance to win! OPEN INTERNATIONALLY)

Sweet Enemy

Beakers and ball gowns don't mix, so when lady chemist, Miss Liliana Claremont, goes undercover as a husband-hunter to investigate Lord Geoffrey Wentworth, the earl whose family she suspects murdered her father, romance isn't part of her formula. But it only takes one kiss to start a reaction she can't control...

Sweet Deception

Lady criminologist, Miss Emma Wallingford, unknowingly finds herself tangled up in the dangerous final mission of Lord Derick Aveline, a spy who also happens to be her long-lost first love. But when deception, however sweet, is the name of the game, no one can be trusted. And every love--and every life--is at risk.

And don’t forget SWEET MADNESS, coming April 2, 2013!

There’s a fine line between love and insanity…

Ever since her husband’s sudden and tragic death, Lady Penelope Bridgeman has committed herself to studying the maladies of the mind, particularly treating traumatized soldiers of the Napoleonic Wars. It is this expertise that brings the Marquess of Bromwich’s family to her door.

Gabriel Devereaux’s unexpected and unpredictable episodes are unlike any Penelope has studied. The once proud soldier has been left shaken and withdrawn, but she manages to build a fragile trust between them. Strangely, Gabriel seems completely lucid when not in the grips of his mania, and in the calm between bouts, she is surprised by how much she is drawn to him.

Despite his own growing feelings, Gabriel knows that he is fit for no one, and is determined to keep Penelope away from his descent into madness. But even though she knows firsthand the folly of loving a broken man, Penelope cannot stop herself from trying to save him, no matter the cost.

"In this emotional, compassionate romance...the powerful love story will sweep readers away."

  1. I want to travel. Like WAY more. But so far my favourite vacation was going to Vietnam and Cambodia for a school/aid type thing. It's one of the only times I've really been overseas and I loved it, even though it was crazy humid and seriously different. And there was an amazing mini cruise involved in Ha Long Bay!

  2. Never been on a cruise. My favorite vacation is going to the Smokey Mountains with my husband for our honeymoon.
Great fun to get away from everyone for a bit.

    1. Hi Amy :) I've only been on one, but we're anxiously awaiting the Spare turning 3 so we can take a Disney cruise as a family. We could go now, but if we wait until youngest is 3, the boys can stay together in the same day camp.

My parents and in-laws have both done Smokey Mountain trips and loved it. I've yet to, but it's on my list!

    1. Hi May :) My husband and I dated for less than a year before he proposed, probably 18 months by the time we married. Long enough, I guess!

We've heard fab things about Disney Cruises. Waiting for Spare to turn 3 so boys can be in the same day camp room.

  9. Hmmm...favorite vacation had to be the trip my sister and I took last year to the Hill Country in Texas. We toured wineries, stayed at a quaint B&B & enjoyed lots of great food! It was such a relaxing vacation...the first time I'd ever been away from my kids!

I'd like to visit the northern part of England and as many of the remaining country homes as I can. But I REALLY want to see Venice, too...so many beautiful places, not enough time! (Or money!)

  17. One of my favorite vacation memories was as a very small kid - probably just out of kindergarten or 1st grade - we went camping with family friends :) They organized a treasure hunt for me, the only kid. I went through small streams, fields, around various trees.. ended up with little small prizes, like magnets and stickers and such.. but I remember the joy of finding my hidden treasures :) It was a lot of fun!

  26. My hubby's and my favorite vacation was when spent an entire summer in the British Isles. My hubby is a UMC pastor and we went on a Pastor Exchange program (we lived in the English pastor's home and used his car and he and his family lived in our California parsonage and used our cars), so it was very affordable. The only stip was six weeks of preaching and visiting in each other's churches. The rest of the summer was ours to do with as we wanted. We visited Scotland, Wales, Ireland and spent an entire week in London, staying in bed and breakfasts when we were away from the exchange parsonage. It was a phenomenal summer trip that we'll never forget!

  27. I love this series! I have never been on cruise but would love too one day, although I'm quite scared being in open water, I still want to experience it. I guess my best vacation was going to LA for the first time for a concert. Although it was only 3 days it felt like forever because we did so much and the time change made the days long.

  34. Hi Heather and Sherry!

I met my husband in May 1969, got in engaged in November of the same year and we were married on February 7th, 1970. To me it seemed liked forever waiting for the day to come but the time since has flown by and this year we celebrated our 43rd anniversary!

I think that when you fall in love weather you wait a few months of a few years the time goes by so slowly but once your married the days seem to just fly by! Everyday I realize that I love him more now than I did yesterday!
