Day 3: In Scandal They Wed by Sophie Jordan

Welcome to day three of March SWEET Madness—a month long party to celebrate the upcoming release of my novel, SWEET MADNESS, available April 2, 2013.

I am thrilled to continue this fun event with an old favorite of mine. I fell in love with Sophie’s writing after picking up her second book, Too Wicked to Tame, way back in 2007…yes, I know, I’m ancient!

However, today, I’m going to feature another favorite of mine—her 2010 novel, In Scandal They Wed.  It wasn’t just a favorite of mine! It was a Top Pick from RT Book Reviews magazine and became a NYT Bestseller. I can’t wait to give it away to a lucky winner!

Here is what the book is about:

What kind of woman would marry a man she only just met?
The kind with nothing to lose.

Long ago, Evelyn Cross sacrificed her good name, her freedom, and any hope for love. Now, in the remote English countryside, she struggles to survive and avoid the scandal threatening to destroy all she holds dear . . . until a sinfully handsome viscount arrives on her doorstep, offering marriage, salvation, and tempting her with so much more . . .

What kind of man would marry a woman he only just met?
The kind bound by duty.

Fresh from war, Spencer Lockhart returns home to claim his title and right the wrong his cousin perpetrated upon Evelyn Cross. In need of a wife, his marrying her is a small price to pay for duty. But when he meets her, the fiery chit is not what he expects to find in a ruined lady. As desire flares hotly between them, honor is the last thing on his mind . . .

What kind of man and woman would marry when they've only just met?
The kind who could ignite a scandal with just one touch.

Sweet Enemy

Beakers and ball gowns don't mix, so when lady chemist, Miss Liliana Claremont, goes undercover as a husband-hunter to investigate Lord Geoffrey Wentworth, the earl whose family she suspects murdered her father, romance isn't part of her formula. But it only takes one kiss to start a reaction she can't control...

Sweet Deception

Lady criminologist, Miss Emma Wallingford, unknowingly finds herself tangled up in the dangerous final mission of Lord Derick Aveline, a spy who also happens to be her long-lost first love. But when deception, however sweet, is the name of the game, no one can be trusted. And every love--and every life--is at risk.

And don’t forget SWEET MADNESS, coming April 2, 2013!

There’s a fine line between love and insanity…

Ever since her husband’s sudden and tragic death, Lady Penelope Bridgeman has committed herself to studying the maladies of the mind, particularly treating traumatized soldiers of the Napoleonic Wars. It is this expertise that brings the Marquess of Bromwich’s family to her door.

Gabriel Devereaux’s unexpected and unpredictable episodes are unlike any Penelope has studied. The once proud soldier has been left shaken and withdrawn, but she manages to build a fragile trust between them. Strangely, Gabriel seems completely lucid when not in the grips of his mania, and in the calm between bouts, she is surprised by how much she is drawn to him.

Despite his own growing feelings, Gabriel knows that he is fit for no one, and is determined to keep Penelope away from his descent into madness. But even though she knows firsthand the folly of loving a broken man, Penelope cannot stop herself from trying to save him, no matter the cost.

  1. I don't know if I have a favourite, because the last couple of marriage-of-convenience books I read I really didn't enjoy. I think it's just not one of my favourite tropes, but then again maybe I just haven't read the right book yet!

  3. Hi Heather! I'm happily married for 27 years. I found the "courtship" to long, so, I decided to propose to HIM, yes I ask him in marriage and he accepted. I commented at the question on the rafflecopter for Sophie Jordan's book IN SCANDAL THEY WAIT.
My favorite rushed marriage is "In my wildest Fantasies" by Julianne MacLean! Have fun today!

  4. I am married. My courtship was only 1 yr so that's short, I guess.

Favorite rushed marriage story... Sherry Thomas' Private Arrangement...

  5. THanks for the fun post! I'm not married yet and my "courtship" is going on 4 years so I'd have to say I like the long ;) I also loved Private Arrangement by Sherry Thomas!

  6. Private Arrangement by Sherry Thomas is my favorite rushed marriage story.

I'm divorced (twice) but my courtship for my 2nd marriage was rather short...we met in May and were married in August. Don't know that the marriage would have lasted if we had waited...I think it was a case of 'never to be'.

  7. I agree that Private Arrangement by Sherry Thomas is a favorite. I also liked A Rogue By Any Other Name by Sarah Maclean.

  8. I really liked Kleypas' Devil In Winter :)

  9. I'd probably go with long courtship and I'd say Trial by Desire is my favorite rushed marriage story, but that might just be because it was the one I read most recently. I hate picking favorites!

  10. I am married. We dated for about 3 years before we finally decided to get married.

  11. I love forced marriage scenarios - they're my favorite trope. Although I am not sure I can think of a favorite single book. There are many!

  12. My husband and I dated for a year before we married. It felt like a long time to wait after we realized we were in love and not just friends.

I don't have a favorite rushed marriage romance. I have liked all that I have read so far, but can't think of the names of them.

  14. Well, my hubby and I have been married 33 years and our courtship was short. We met during an Easter Contata at church (he was the pastor at the church I was visiting with a friend), we met several times for lunch and then had our first evening date to participate in the Hallelujah Sing-a-Long just before Christmas...and got married the following July. Well, maybe a year isn't really a short courtship after all, now that I think about it. But it was a whirlwind love affair--and still is after 33 years! And my hubby supports my reading romances! jdh2690ATgmailDOTcom

  15. I went with my ex-husband for a year before we got married, so I guess that would be a long courtship. :D I think I'd prefer something longer rather than shorter. I guess I don't believe in rushing into things.

  16. I married my hubby about a year after our first date, but I'd known him and worked with him for years.

I can't think of a rushed marriage favorite right off my head, but I do enjoy reading them.

  17. Sine I'm not married I think I wouldn't want the courtship to be too lone but not too short either. As long as we are both on the same page and have a steady and good understand of each others' needs then I think it'll be all good.

As for the forced/rushed marriage, I loved Miranda Neville's Confessions of an Arranged Marriage. Ahh it was so heart touchingly humorous and lovable. Minerva and Blake just makes a great couple and they definitely deserved each other and their HEA.

  18. We had a short courtship, and at 25 years we are still going strong=)

  19. Fairly short; we got married just under a year after we met.
Not sure I really have a favorite. One I can think of that I really enjoyed was Woodiwiss's A Rose in Winter.

  20. I've been dating my boyfriend for 5 years so I guess I'm okay with a longer courtship lol. Hopefully not too much longer though!

  21. I met my husband my senior year of college. We dated for 1 1/2 years before we were married. So my courtship was short. We've been married for almost 36 years so something defintely clicked and worked out for us.

  22. My hubby and I only dated 9 months before we got married. We'll be married 21 years at the end of the month. :D When you know, you know!

    ReplyDelete
  23. the younger you are, the longer the courtship should be. both to get to know each other but also the young are still changing in themselves

  24. Not married, but I have been with my bf for 13 years already so I would prefer a short courtship.

  25. My husband and I met in May of 1969 while he was attached to a squaron during Vietnam and married the next February. To me it seemed like it was along time to wait but in actuality it wasn't because we married the next February. The days seemed to drag by because for most of the time he was on missions but every time he would return it seemed the time flew by!

I was amazed when we celebrated our 43 Anniversary earlier this year how fast the time had passed since that day because it seems like only yesterday that we were looking forward to the day that we could start a family. Now we have 5 grandchildren and the time still seems to be going by so quickly because we have things to do, people to see, places we still haven't visited and grandchildren to read to!

  26. Not married but I'd take a long courtship so I'd get to know him well.
