Day 20: A Breath of Scandal by Elizabeth Essex

Welcome to day twenty of March SWEET Madness—a month long party to celebrate the upcoming release of my novel, SWEET MADNESS, available April 2, 2013.

Today I am featuring another favorite author, and coincidentally, another Elizabeth! Elizabeth Essex writes fabulously, I assure you. Last year, she was up for the prestigious Romance Writers of America’s RITA award, and another book, Almost a Scandal, is a finalist, along with my own Sweet Deception, for the Gayle Wilson Award of Excellence for published historical romance!

Today, I chose to feature her most current novel, A Breath of Scandal, here today, and I think you’re going to love it.

More about the book:

Shockingly brash and scandalously independent, the Reckless Brides are boldly rewriting the rules of love and marriage—one smitten bachelor at a time…

In the game of kiss and tell, there are no rules…

THE LADY IS A KNOCKOUT

Forced by her family into an engagement with a man she can never abide, Antigone Preston knows only a scandal will save her from a loveless marriage. But knocking a man down to the ballroom floor with her fists brings dangerous consequences. She may have ruined her reputation, but now she’s endangered her heart…

THE OFFICER IS A GENTLEMAN

The son of an earl and a career navy man, Captain William Jellicoe has no interest in the frivolities of London—and even less in the institution of marriage. But there’s something steering him toward Antigone. He has never met anyone as brazen and unconventional as…himself. But will he risk it all for a woman who still has the breath of scandal hot on her lips?

And now for the fun part—your chance to win! Just fill out the rafflecopter form below. Contest will be open for 2 weeks—US & CANADA only, please).

I am also giving away a copy of either my debut, SWEET ENEMY or SWEET DECEPTION (winner’s choice) EVERY DAY of March SWEET Madness! (you will need to enter this contest separately every day for a new chance to win! OPEN INTERNATIONALLY)

Sweet Enemy

Beakers and ball gowns don't mix, so when lady chemist, Miss Liliana Claremont, goes undercover as a husband-hunter to investigate Lord Geoffrey Wentworth, the earl whose family she suspects murdered her father, romance isn't part of her formula. But it only takes one kiss to start a reaction she can't control...

Sweet Deception

Lady criminologist, Miss Emma Wallingford, unknowingly finds herself tangled up in the dangerous final mission of Lord Derick Aveline, a spy who also happens to be her long-lost first love. But when deception, however sweet, is the name of the game, no one can be trusted. And every love--and every life--is at risk.

And don’t forget SWEET MADNESS, coming April 2, 2013!

There’s a fine line between love and insanity…

Ever since her husband’s sudden and tragic death, Lady Penelope Bridgeman has committed herself to studying the maladies of the mind, particularly treating traumatized soldiers of the Napoleonic Wars. It is this expertise that brings the Marquess of Bromwich’s family to her door.

Gabriel Devereaux’s unexpected and unpredictable episodes are unlike any Penelope has studied. The once proud soldier has been left shaken and withdrawn, but she manages to build a fragile trust between them. Strangely, Gabriel seems completely lucid when not in the grips of his mania, and in the calm between bouts, she is surprised by how much she is drawn to him.

Despite his own growing feelings, Gabriel knows that he is fit for no one, and is determined to keep Penelope away from his descent into madness. But even though she knows firsthand the folly of loving a broken man, Penelope cannot stop herself from trying to save him, no matter the cost.

    1. Betty,

I know exactly how hard it can be to deal with motion sickness. In fact, I wrote one of my best heroes ever, Col from ALMOST A SCANDAL who was a sailor who never left his boat because he suffered terribly from reverse, or land sickness, when he set foot on solid land.

So I give you leave to stay on your beach and enjoy every minute there! (I will as well!).

  11. Good morning Elizabeth and Heather! Well, I'm afraid I'm a land lubber due to sea sickness... even on ferries! But I love the ocean and wish I could live in a seaside town or city and love to visit such a place whenever I can. I also adore stories about dashing sea captains because I can be on the sea at least in my mind! And, of course, I love romances that involve dashing sea captains. jdh2690@gmail.com

I so sympathize with those who suffer from sea sickness, but I am mean enough to have given the complain to several of my characters, especially to Col in ALMOST A SCANDAL. But he got sick ever time he put a foot on land!

But I'm so glad you like the dashing seas stories. I can take care of you there!

So wishing you loads of happy, adventurous reading time, and sending you my thanks for stopping by today to chat and celebrate another day nearer to the release of SWEET MADNESS.

Now that I think on how wonderful, and wonderfully soothing the sound is, I'm sure we could go out and by a CD or an app that will play wave music on our iphones so we can fall asleep to waves. At the moment the closest thing I have to that is the indispensable Mr. Essex snoring lightly. :) Bless his heart.
